The mission of our lab is to understand pain and emotions from the perspective of cognitive/affective/social neuroscience, psychology, and artificial intelligence. We also aim to develop clinically useful neuroimaging models and tools. Our main research tools include functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI; we’re using 3T and 7T MRI), psychophysiology, behavioral measures such as facial expression, eye movement, etc. Most importantly, we use data science and artificial intelligence to model and understand affective, cognitive, and language processes. We are a part of the IBS Center for Neuroscience Imaging Research (CNIR; http://cnir.ibs.re.kr/), which consists of exciting neuroscience research groups ranging from MR technology to computational modeling of animal-to-human behaviors.

We don't have many alumni yet. I expect our lab alumni to be successful in academia, national labs, and data science or healthcare-related industry.

Our lab values diversity, and thus we welcome people who have any academic background. But our lab members tend to have degrees in psychology, medicine, biology, and computer science.

Ideal candidates will have strong computational skills (or a strong motivation to develop your computational skills) and research questions in the area of human psychology and neuroscience, esp. centered around pain and affective processes.

저희 연구실은 위에 적은 여러 기본 분야를 중심으로 계속 연구를 진행하면서, 동시에 새롭고 흥미로운 연구 영역으로의 확장을 꾀하고 있습니다. 특히 통증, 정서, 가치 등의 키워드를 가지고 Unity환경을 이용해 reinforcement learning (특히 deep RL)을 연구하고 있으며, 자연어처리(natural language processing, NLP)도 적극적으로 이용하여 연구를 진행하려고 하고 있습니다. 또한 dynamical complex system의 관점에서의 모델링 연구도 더 많이 하려고 계획 중에 있습니다.

정리하자면, 1) 기존에 저희 연구실이 현재 잘하고 있는 연구들을 계속 잘하기 위해서는 심리학/생물학/컴퓨터과학/의학 등의 배경을 지니신 분들을 계속 환영하구요! 2) 앞으로 더 발전하기 위해 Unity, 강화학습, 딥러닝, NLP, dynamical modeling, network modeling, 응용수학 등에 강점이 있으신 분들도 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.
