At the Institute for a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy (INW - Catalytic Interfaces for Chemical Hydrogen Storage (INW-1), Director Hans-Georg Steinrück), we investigate fundamental mechanisms and processes of chemical hydrogen storage at solid-liquid interfaces (i.e., catalyst-molecule interaction). We are interested in (i) monitoring real-time structural information of (electro)catalytic interface (e.g. adsorption, hydrogen transfer, surface restructuring) and thereby (ii) identifying key descriptors within the catalytic interface during hydrogenation/dehydrogenation of molecules. We highlight using advanced analytic methodologies (including synchrotrons and neutron facilities) to shed light on catalytic systems across atomic- to nano-scale phenomena under operando conditions. Currently, INW-1 is establishing the state-of-the-art analytic capacity (e.g. X-ray scattering, diffraction, spectroscopy, microscopy) for operando analyses on catalytic system and looking for talented researchers
